Following the release of the iPhone 16 series, Apple is gearing up to launch a new budget-friendly iPhone SE model in early 2024. According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this upcoming iPhone SE, codenamed V59, will be the first major update to the device since 2022. Leaks and rumors suggest that Apple plans to replace the classic home button design with a modern edge-to-edge screen, similar to its higher-end iPhone models. This marks a significant design shift, aligning the SE with more premium devices.
iPhone SE 4 to Challenge Android Competitors
Apple’s strategy with the next iPhone SE is clear: it aims to attract budget-conscious consumers and regain market share lost to Android brands like Xiaomi and Huawei. Despite its popularity, the current iPhone SE starts at $429, which is still more expensive than many of its lower-end Android competitors. However, the new model is expected to offer more features to justify its price point, making it a compelling option for consumers seeking affordability without sacrificing performance.
iPhone SE 4: New Features and Design Changes
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to borrow design elements from the iPhone 14, featuring a notch at the top of the display and eliminating the home button. One of the most exciting rumors surrounding the device is the potential inclusion of Apple Intelligence—a suite of AI tools that will also be available on the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 Pro models. This feature will make the iPhone SE 4 the most affordable iPhone equipped with advanced AI capabilities.
In addition to AI integration, the SE 4 is expected to feature a larger 6.1-inch display, similar to the iPhone 14. Apple may also replace the lightning port with a USB-C charging port, aligning with the EU’s recent regulatory requirements. The Action Button, a feature previously seen on high-end iPhones, could replace the traditional Mute switch. Rumors also suggest that the iPhone SE 4 might come with an A18 chipset and 8GB of RAM, enhancing performance and making it a strong contender in the mid-range market.
Apple’s Upcoming iPad and Mac Lineup
In addition to the iPhone SE 4, Apple is expected to refresh its iPad Air lineup. New models, codenamed J607 and J637, are anticipated to come with internal upgrades, though no major design changes are expected. Additionally, Apple may update the Magic Keyboard for its 11-inch and 13-inch iPads, introducing some features from the iPad Pro lineup.
The iPad mini could also see an upgrade by late 2024, catering to those who prefer a more compact tablet experience.
Mac Lineup Revamp with M4 Chip
Apple isn’t stopping with just its mobile devices; the company is also preparing to update its Mac lineup. New Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and iMac models are expected to debut, all featuring the next-generation M4 chip. These devices will also incorporate Apple Intelligence, enhancing their AI-driven capabilities. By 2025, the M4 chip is expected to power the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro, making them some of the most powerful computing devices in Apple’s lineup.
