Seoul: At least 28 people lost their lives after a plane caught fire and crash-landed at Muan International Airport in South Korea. The aircraft, carrying 181 people, slipped off the runway during landing and collided with the airport’s boundary wall. The impact caused the plane to catch fire.
According to Yonhap news agency reports, the plane had 175 passengers and six crew members on board. Rescue teams reached the site and managed to control the fire, but the accident claimed several lives and left many others injured.
The death toll in the accident is likely to increase. Rescue operation is underway at Muan Airport. After the plane caught fire, the sky was filled with smoke and there was chaos at the airport.
South Korea’s acting President Choi Sang-moo expressed grief over the plane crash. He has also ordered immediate rescue operation at Muan Airport.
According to news agency Yonhap, two people were found alive during the rescue operation.
