New Delhi: At least 41 people were killed in an accident in southern Mexico in the early hours of Saturday, according to the government of Tabasco state.
The accident occurred after the passenger bus carrying 48 people collided with a truck. According to local officials, 38 passengers and two bus drivers lost their lives, along with the driver of the truck. The impact of the crash was such that the bus was engulfed into flames, leaving the vehicle completely charred, with only its skeletal metal frame remaining.
“Governor (of Tabasco) Javier May instructed us to support the relatives of the victims in whatever way necessary after this unfortunate accident,” said secretary of government, Jose Ramiro Lopez Obrador.
Emergency personnel and rescue teams have been working tirelessly to recover victims and assess the full extent of the damage.
The bus operator, Tours Acosta, issued a public apology via Facebook, expressing condolences to the victims and their families. The company said that it was cooperating with authorities to determine the cause of the accident, including whether the bus had been traveling within the speed limit at the time of the collision.
