Geneva: India delivered a sharp rebuke to Pakistan at the seventh meeting of the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Thursday, calling it a “failed state” that depends on international aid for survival.
Kshitij Tyagi, representing India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, criticised Pakistan’s leadership for propagating military-driven falsehoods. His remarks were in response to allegations made by Pakistani law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar regarding human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is regrettable that Pakistan’s leaders and delegates persist in spreading falsehoods dictated by its military-terrorist complex. Pakistan is turning the OIC into its mouthpiece, making a mockery of the organisation. This Council’s time is repeatedly wasted by a failed state that thrives on instability and relies on international handouts. Its rhetoric reeks of hypocrisy, its actions of inhumanity, and its governance of incompetence. India remains committed to democracy, progress, and ensuring dignity for its people—values that Pakistan would do well to learn from,” Mr Tyagi stated in Geneva.

He further accused Pakistan of misusing international platforms to push anti-India narratives while neglecting its own internal crises.
Reaffirming India’s stance, Mr Tyagi emphasised that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are and will always remain integral parts of India. He highlighted the significant development and stability achieved in these regions in recent years, countering Pakistan’s claims of unrest.
India reaffirmed its stance on Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), asserting that the Union Territories will always remain an integral and inalienable part of the country.
“The unprecedented political, social, and economic progress in Jammu & Kashmir in recent years speaks for itself. These achievements reflect the people’s trust in the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy in a region long scarred by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” said Kshitij Tyagi, representing India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva.
Slamming Pakistan’s human rights record, Mr Tyagi stated that a country where human rights abuses, persecution of minorities, and the erosion of democratic values are state policies, and which openly shelters UN-sanctioned terrorists, has no credibility to lecture others on these issues.
“Rather than its unhealthy obsession with India, Pakistan should focus on providing actual governance and justice to its own people. It is unfortunate that this Council’s time continues to be wasted by a failed state that thrives on instability and survives on international handouts. Its rhetoric reeks of hypocrisy, its actions of inhumanity, and its governance of incompetence. India remains committed to democracy, progress, and ensuring dignity for its people—values that Pakistan would do well to learn from,” he added.
India’s latest remarks followed a strong statement made on 19 February by its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish. Speaking during an Open Debate at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Mr Harish responded to comments by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, stating:
“The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has been, is, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India.”
