New Delhi: Russia on Thursday asserted that it will decide how and when to respond to Ukraine’s Operation ‘Spider’s Web’ under which it struck Russian military airbases and aircraft last week.
Moscow’s assertion comes a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump spoke over the phone for 75 minutes. During the call, the Russian leader pointed out that Moscow will respond to Ukraine’s strike.
On the social media platform Truth Social, Trump underlined that Putin emphatically said that he will have to respond to the attacks on the airfields.
Trump wrote: “The call lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes. We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides. It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace. President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”
According to an AFP report, the Kremlin confirmed that the attack will be carried out “as and when our military deems it appropriate”.
About Operation Spider’s Web
Operation Spider’s Web was a secret drone attack launched by Ukraine during its ongoing confrontation with Russia. The large-scale strike was carried out on June 1. It was orchestrated by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU).
The first-person-view (FPV) drones were sneaked into Russia long before the attack was executed. They were assembled into mobile wooden houses mounted on trucks. The drones were hidden under retractable roofs, cleverly concealed in plain sight.
As per SBU, more than 40 Russian bombers — routinely used to launch attacks on Kyiv — were destroyed in the massive attack. The operation’s stealth and audacity — smuggling drones thousands of kilometers into Russian territory using trucks to target air bases hosting strategic bomber fleets — mark a major escalation in Kyiv’s covert operational capabilities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that the operation took 18 months and nine days to be planned and executed.
Russian strikes kill 5
After the phone call between Putin and Trump, Russia struck Ukraine and at least five people were killed in the attack. According to an AP report, six Russian drones struck a residential area in the Ukrainian city of Pyluky, leaving five people, including an one-year-old child, dead.
