New Delhi: It seems US President-elect Donald Trump is eager to make Canada the 51st state of the United States-his vision of “Akhand America”. Trump on Wednesday shared a map on Truth Social that depicted Canada as part of the US with the caption, “Oh Canada!” Apart from Canada, Trump also want to takeover Greenland from Denmark.
This follows earlier remarks in which Trump advocated for using “economic force” to absorb Canada into the US. During a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump denied intentions of military intervention but doubled down on his vision of eliminating the “artificially drawn line” between the two nations.

‘Move will strengthen national security’
“Canada and the United States — that would really be something,” Trump said, arguing that such a move would strengthen national security and reduce the financial burden on the US. “Don’t forget, we basically protect Canada,” he added, claiming that the US spends “hundreds of billions a year” on this effort.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had resigned just a day earlier, dismissed Trump’s remarks with sharp criticism. On social media platform X, Trudeau posted, “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.”
The Liberal Party of Canada also issued a swift rebuttal, posting a map on X that clearly distinguished Canada from the United States.
French foreign minister responds to Trump’s comments
Meanwhile, French foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot in responding to Trump’s comments on Greenland said that the European Union will not let other nations attack its sovereign borders, adding that the vast Arctic island has been part of Denmark for over 600 years.
“There is obviously no question that the European Union would let other nations of the world attack its soverign borders, whoever they are … We are a strong continent,” Reuters quoted as Barrot saying.
