New Delhi: The heat is on and mercury in Pakistan is soaring.
Temperatures in Pakistan are expected to zoom to 50 degrees Celsius this week, approaching the global record for April. The temperatures in central and southern Pakistan have already risen to 48 degree Celsius over the weekend and is expected to go up further through Wednesday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department already predicted heatwave conditions from April 26 to 30. It suggested the people to take precautionary steps. Nawabshah in Pakistan is expected to cross the world’s highest recorded April temperature of 50 degree Celsius, set in April 2018, according to a report in The Washington Post.
Jaisalmer scorches at 46.2 degree Celsius
In India too, the temperatures are hovering around 46 degree Celsius. On April 28, in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer the mercury touched 46.2 degree Celsius. This is the highest temperature ever recorded in Jaisalmer in the month of April since 1969. Delhi witnessed a scorching day on April 27, marking the hottest day of the year so far, along with the warmest night in six years. It was also the highest maximum temperature recorded in April over the past three years.

This week, temperatures beyond 110 degree Fahrenheit are expected across 21 countries. These include Pakistan, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, India, Iraq, Qatar, Sudan, the UAE, Oman, South Sudan, Bahrain, Mali, Senegal, Chad, Ethiopia, Niger, Eritrea, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso.
Current forecasts, which use the highly reliable ECMWF model, indicate that the mercury could shoot to 49 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. Global temperature data suggests that April 2025 has been exceptionally warm so far, with 63% of the planet recording above-average temperatures. Warmer-than-average conditions have hit 116 countries, while 39 experienced cooler-than-average temperatures.
