‘Bullseye’: Trump says Iranian nuclear sites suffered ‘monumental damage’, but Tehran refutes his claims

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has said that the airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites have caused “monumental damage” to Iran and dealt a huge blow to its nuclear programme. Trump’s latest comments refer to the satellite images showing the damage wreaked on the Fordow nuclear facility.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, the US President wrote that the US hit the “bullseye” with the strikes on Iran.

Trump said: “Monumental Damage was done to all Nuclear sites in Iran, as shown by satellite images. Obliteration is an accurate term! The white structure shown is deeply imbedded into the rock, with even its roof well below ground level, and completely shielded from flame. The biggest damage took place far below ground level. Bullseye!!!”

Even as Trump claimed “monumental damage” to Iran and satellite images show visible damage to the Iranian nuclear sites, there are still doubts over the actual impact on the three facilities.

Iran has said that not much damage was caused due to the strikes to the nuclear sites. Officials were quoted as saying by State TV that uranium and other substances in the nuclear sites had been evacuated before the US attacks.

According to a Reuters report, a number of experts pointed out that Iran may have moved a stockpile of near weapons-grade highly enriched uranium out of Fordow before the US strike. They added that Iran could be hiding it and other nuclear components in locations unknown to Israel, the US and UN nuclear inspectors.

After the attacks, Trump had posted on Truth Social: “We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow.”
