New Delhi: Republican Representative Brandon Gill of Texas’s 26th Congressional District has come under intense scrutiny following a controversial post on his “X” (formerly Twitter) account. The post lamented the impact of mass migration on California and its transformation over the decades.

Social media users swiftly condemned Gill’s stance, with some turning their attention to his personal life. His wife, Danielle D’Souza Gill, is of Indian descent. One user commented, “You married an Indian, you are a part of the problem.”
Gill’s post, which juxtaposed images of California in the 1960s and today, reignited debates around immigration and cultural identity. He emphasised, “Mass migration has made America unrecognisable.”
Online reactions ranged from sharp criticism to satire. Many netizens called out perceived hypocrisy, pointing to his interracial marriage. One user posted “Remind me, whom you are married to!?”, while other pointed that “You married a second-generation immigrant.”

Gill is married to conservative author Danielle D’Souza, who was born in Mumbai.
Some users also referenced historical context, including the 1965 Watts Riots, an episode of civil unrest in Los Angeles sparked by the arrest of Marquette Frye, a Black man, by a white California Highway Patrol officer. Critics used this to question Gill’s nostalgic portrayal of 1960s California.

I guess you forgot the watts riots. Super peaceful time in the 60s.
Of course we know you are just a racist.

The controversy follows a previous incident in March, when Gill criticised a volleyball tournament attended by members of the Leuva Patidar Samaj, citing it as an example of “importing foreign class allegiances.” In that post, he wrote, “America is a land of opportunities because we don’t have a caste system…Immigration without assimilation is national and cultural suicide.”
