Winnipeg: In a shocking case reported from Canada’s Winnipeg, an Indian woman was repeatedly stabbed by 2 strangers. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Tanpreet Kaur, who was returning home after work, shortly after midnight.
Bystanders helped save woman: Police
The Winnipeg Police said that some bystanders helped Kaur and freed her from the clutches of the attackers. Her attackers however managed to flee, they said. Kaur was moved to a nearby hospital and has been admitted with critical injuries.
According to a report in the Indian Express, “The victim was robbed of her cell phone. She managed to hold onto the knife used by the attackers and disarmed her attackers. Even after that, the 2 continued to assault her.”
The bystanders helped save the woman and called 911. But by the time the police arrived, the 2 attackers had fled, the report added.
The incident happened on June 23 on Roslyn Road, 1-99 block.
Teenager arrested for assault
According to reports, the Winnipeg Police have arrested a 17-year-old girl in connection with the assault on the woman. The girl has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and multiple breaches of a release order.
It is not clear if more people were involved in the attack and if the police are searching for them.
Indian woman killed in Canada
In a separate case the Police in Canada’s Ontario have discovered the remains of an Indian origin woman, Shalini Singh at a landfill. Investigations revealed that a missing person complaint had been filed regarding her disappearance in December 2024.
The Police charged Singh’s live-in partner for the murder. He has been identified as Jeffery Smith. The man was charged with second degree murder and indignity to human remains. The human remains were discovered on May 21 and soon after Smith was arrested and charged for the murder.
