Vancouver: Several people were killed and many others were injured, when a man drove his car into a crowd in Vancouver. The incident happened as people gathered in the city for a street festival. Police said that the incident was reported at around 8 pm Saturday.

The Vancouver Police in a post on social media platform, ‘X’ said, “A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8 pm tonight.” They informed that the driver of the vehicle involved in the tragedy has been taken into custody.

The police also said that investigations are ongoing and further details will be provided as per the findings. The Lapu Lapu Day Block Party was taking place in the street when this incident happened. This comes just a day ahead of federal elections in the country.
The police were not able to confirm the exact number of casualties in the accident. Emergency workers were called in and they have started moving the injured to the hospitals. Several videos from the accident site have been shared on social media. Police cars, ambulances and fire trucks could be lined up along the street where the accident happened. The police have not revealed the identity of the driver.
