Canadian plane catches fire during landing, hours after South Korea tragedy

Ottawa: Hours after the tragic plane crash in South Korea, another plane crash took place at Halifax Airport in Canada on Sunday. The incident involved a PAL Airlines plane, identified as flight AC2259, which had taken off from St John’s.

Upon landing at Halifax Airport, the plane slipped off the runway. The landing gear failed, and the plane caught fire shortly after. Emergency response teams arrived at the spot, and the airport was closed as a result of the accident.

There is no official information regarding the number of people on board or casualties. However, a rescued passenger reported that the plane was fully occupied and it has a seating capacity of up to 80 passengers.

South Korea plane crash

This incident took place just hours after a devastating plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Korea. In that accident, a Jeju Airlines flight carrying 181 people crashed, resulting in the deaths of over 160 people. 

Two people were rescued from the wreckage. The flight, which was returning from Bangkok to South Korea, had 6 crew members and 175 passengers on board.
