Chilling video of incident
The diner, located just a quarter mile from the crash site, was filled with customers when the accident took place. A chilling 16-second video, which quickly went viral, shows the moment the metal piece struck a man sitting at the diner.
As the metal hit him in the head, the other customers ducked for cover, crawling on the floor to avoid further injury. “He was OK, but I mean he was bleeding. A lot of bleeding on his head. Just shocking,” Paul Pul, an employee at the diner, told 6abc Action News.
What authorities said
The injured man was immediately taken to the hospital, though his condition remains unknown. According to New York Post reports, restaurant manager Ayhan Tiryaki confirmed that the diner staff and other patrons were unharmed.
Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the plane had descended sharply before it collided with the ground. The crash took place just two days after another tragic aviation accident in Washington, where a passenger plane and a military helicopter collided midair, resulting in 67 deaths, marking the deadliest US crash since 2009.
