San José: With the US continuing to deport illegal immigrants, Costa Rica has announced its willingness to receive such migrants who are deported from the country. With this, it has become the third country to announce such a move after Panama and Guatemala.
Releasing a statement, Costa Rica on Monday said that it would receive 200 illegal immigrants from Central Asia and India, who will be deported by the US on a commercial flight on Monday.
Costa Rica Government issues statement
“The Government of Costa Rica agreed to collaborate with the United States in the repatriation of 200 illegal immigrants to their country,” the Costa Rican president’s office said in a statement, adding that “these are people originating from… Central Asia and India,” the statement from Costa Rica government said.
After the flight with illegal immigrants lands in the Central American country on Wednesday, they will be transported to a temporary migrant care center, which is close to Panama. They will then be sent to their respective countries. In its statement, Costa Rica also said that the process will be completely financed by the US under the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s supervision.
The first repatriation flight with 119 migrants landed in Panama last week
Last week, Panama received the first repatriation flight with 119 migrants, who were from Pakistan, China, and other countries. No illegal immigrants have been sent to Guatemala yet. As per a report by news agency AFP, Latin America is the original home of most of the United States’ undocumented migrants. There have various reports on how some of the detainees managed to escape after facing hardships. Soon after entering the White House on the first day, he declared a national emergency at the southern US border. He also pledged to deport illegal migrants out of the country.
