Trump however seemed not to be too satisfied with the conversation with Putin. He told reporters, ” I am not happy about that. No, I didn’t make any progress with him (Russian President Putin) today.”

The Kremlin said that the call lasted for close to an hour. They said that Putin made it clear to the US President that his country remains firm on achieving its objectives. In a statement the Kremlin said, “Our president said that Russia will achieve the aims it set, that is to say the elimination of the root causes that led to the current state of affairs. Russia will not give up on these aims”, reported AFP.

Putin also urged diplomacy in the Middle East after the rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
