Washington: Preparation is in full swing for the swearing-in of President-Elect Donald Trump at the Capitol Hill in Washington on Monday. Trump, who will be the 47th President of the US, will be sworn in at around 10:30 pm (IST). Vice President-Elect JD Vance will be sworn in before him.
A large number of dignitaries will be attending the ceremony from the US and abroad. Among those who will attend the event include current President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Former Presidents Barrack Obama, Bill Gates, and George Bush (Junior). Bill Gates’s wife Hillary Clinton, a former US Foreign Secretary herself, and Bush’s wife Laura Bush will also attend the ceremony.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to attend swearing-in
Several foreign leaders like Argentina President Javier Milei, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. China’s Vice President, Han Zheng will also attend the swearing-in. India will be represented by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Notably, this will be the first time since 1874 that a foreign leader will attend the Presidential-oath ceremony in the US.
Apart from them, Tech giant and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani, his wife Nita Ambani, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, are also expected to grace the occasion. According to CNN, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a member of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, will also be present at Capitol Hill.
Notably, former First Lady and Obama’s wife Michelle Obama may not attend the event. The reason for her likely absence is not known yet. Apart from her, Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may not attend. Pelosi attended Trump’s inauguration for his previous term in 2017. Pelosi was the top Democrat in the House at the time.
