Washington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that American officials will talk with Iran next week, after the war between Iran and Israel brought tensions to a high. Trump made this statement during a press conference at the NATO summit in the Netherlands.
“We’re going to talk with them next week, with Iran. We may sign an agreement, I don’t know,” Trump said.
He also said he isn’t very interested in restarting talks but believes the war has already ended. “The way I look at it, they fought, the war is done,” Trump said.
Trump said that US military strikes had already destroyed Iran’s nuclear program.
At the NATO Summit in the Netherlands, Trump made claims about his diplomatic achievements, saying he prevented a nuclear war between India and Pakistan by leveraging trade negotiations. Speaking at a press conference, Trump said, “The most important of all, India and Pakistan… I ended that with a series of phone calls on trade. I said if you’re going to go fighting each other, we’re not doing any trade deal.”
He added that both sides backed down after his intervention, claiming, “The General from Pakistan was in my office last week. Prime Minister Modi is a great friend of mine… I got them to reason, and I said, we’re not doing a trade deal if you’re going to fight. They said, no, I want to do the trade deal. We stopped the nuclear war.”
Trump also spoke about other global conflicts, stating that in recent weeks, “We took care of India and Pakistan, Kosovo, and Serbia. The Congo is coming in, and Rwanda is coming in, that was a vicious war that went on. We did two others in addition to that. Nobody’s ever done anything like this.”
