New Delhi: A scene of unspeakable tragedy gripped the Austrian city of Graz on Tuesday morning, as a devastating shooting at a secondary school campus on Dreierschuetzengasse resulted in the deaths of at least eight people.

Authorities confirmed the grim toll after multiple gunshots were reported within the school around 10 AM, immediately triggering a massive police response.

Police swiftly deployed a substantial force to the educational institution, initiating a major ongoing operation. While the Interior Ministry initially confirmed “several fatalities,” local media outlets, including the Kronen Zeitung and state broadcaster ORF, soon reported a confirmed death toll of at least eight, citing unnamed officials.

As the police operation continues, the entire school building is being meticulously searched by authorities. The public has been urgently warned to avoid the area due to the sensitivity of the situation. Austrian police have confirmed the extensive nature of the response, with a police helicopter also being utilised to aid in surveillance and coordination efforts over the scene.

In a move to support the community amid the unfolding crisis, police have established a dedicated meeting point for parents of students at the Asko stadium, providing a central location for worried families to seek information and potentially reunite with their children.
