New Delhi: Elon Musk, who is the heading US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has made a U-turn about a claim that previous Joe Biden administration was planning to send $50 million funding for the condoms in Gaza Strip.
Initially, the Trump led White House made the claim while freezing the foreign. The claim was promptly rejected by a former Biden administration official.
Gaza is in Mozambique
DOGE chief Elon Musk walked back the comment while carrying his son on his shoulders in the Oval Office as Trump signed the executive orders.
It is said that Elon Musk mistook the Gaza Strip for a province in Mozambique that was given contraceptives as part of USAID to fight AIDS, said a report in Times of Israel.
“Musk’s response to condom funding”
When asked by a reporter about the false claim by his DOGE department, Elon Musk said, “Well, first of all some of the things I say will be incorrect and should be corrected. Nobody is going to bat 1,000. We will make mistakes, but we will act quickly to correct any mistakes.”
DOGE chief further stated, “I am not sure we should be sending $50 million dollars worth of condoms anywhere. I am not sure that’s something Americans would be really excited about. That really is an enormous number of condoms. If it were to Mozambique instead of Gaza, that’s not as bad, but still..why are we doing that?”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump who claimed DOGE found out about $100 million Condom funding to Hamas is yet to walk back his remark.
Elon Musk defends DOGE work
Elon Musk has also defended work by DOGE as well as funding cuts he is pushing across the federal government. There have been allegation that Musk is amassing power with little or no accountability.
