Washington: Days before his swearing-in, US-President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held telephonic conversation on Friday. Trump will take oath on January 20, amid presence of dignitaries from across the US and rest of the world.
The ties between both side will remain in focus across the globe as Trump enters the White House for his second term. In recent times the the ties betweeen both countries are tensed over various fields including technology, trade, Taiwan and other issues. Taking to Truth, social media platform, Trump wrote, “the call was a very good one for both China and the USA” He added that both leaders also spoke on TikTok trade, fentanyl and TikTok, among other things.
“President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!” he said. In recent times, the President-Elect has threatened China with tariffs of 60% on its imports in the US. However, Trump had praised his Chinese counterpart in the past and observed that China could play an important role in reducing international crises like the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.
However, China will not attend Trump’s swearing-in at the Capitol Hill. China will brepresented by Vice President Han Zheng at the event.
