New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has fired fresh salvo at the Palestinians when he said ‘Gazan won’t have the right to return’ in his plan to won the Gaza Strip. Trump made the statement when during an interview with Fox News.
Trump has described the Gaza Strip as a demolition site after Israel’s non-stop bombardment of the besieged enclave of 2 million Palestinians. At least 45,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip by Israel following Hamas October 7 shock attack on Southern Israel which killed 1200 people mostly soldiers.
Trump’s remark reinforces ‘ethnic cleansing’ plan
Trump’s remarks have reinforced his plan of ethnic cleansing when he floated the idea last week during a meeting with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. The Arab world had outright rejected the idea including US closest ally Saudi Arabia.
Trump claimed that US ally Jordon and Egypt would take some of the Palestinians, an idea the two countries rejected.
What Trump said in Fox interview
US President Donald Trump talked to Fox News’ Bret Baier and said he would ‘own’ the Gaza Strip and that it would be a “real estate development for the future”.
Trump also floated the idea that he will build six new sites for Palestinians to reside outside in a permanent sort of refugee camps, according to a report in The Guardian.
When Baier asked Trump whether Gazans would have the right to return, Trump said, “No, they wouldn’t, because they are going to have much better housing.”
‘Will build safe communities away from Gazans’
Trump made it clear that he sees Gaza Strip as a prime real estate. “We will build safe communities, a little bit away from where they are (Gaza residents), where all of this danger lies,” he said during the interview.
The US President also mentioned that he is talking about building a permanent place for Gazans to reside. Trump said if Palestinian residents of Gaza want to go back now, it will take years before the place becomes livable again.
