Jerusalem: Hamas on Thursday confirmed the death of Mohammed Deif, head of its military wing, six months after Israel announced that he was killed. In a post on Telegram, Hamas wrote, “The great martyr of the nation — Mohammed Al-Daif “Abu Khaled” — Chief of Staff of the Qassam Brigades.”
According to The Associated Press reports, this is the first statement from Hamas regarding Deif’s fate since Israeli military announced in August that he died in an airstrike in southern Gaza.
Deif was one of Hamas’ top leaders and was accused of planning the October 7 attack on Israel, which led to the ongoing war in Gaza. For years, he was Israel’s most-wanted man due to his role in multiple attacks.
