Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held discussions with US National Security advisor Michael Waltz during his visit to Washington, focusing on strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The two leaders explored avenues for cooperation in strategic technologies, defence industrial collaboration, civil nuclear energy – particularly small modular reactors – and counterterrorism. International and regional matters of mutual interest also featured in their talks, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
After the meeting, PM Modi expressed satisfaction over the discussions, highlighting the importance of defence, technology, and security in the India-US partnership. Sharing his thoughts on X, he said, “Had a fruitful meeting with NSA @michaelgwaltz. He has always been a great friend of India. Defence, technology and security are important aspects of India-USA ties, and we had a wonderful discussion around these issues. There is strong potential for cooperation in sectors like AI, semiconductors, space, and more.”

PM Modi meets Elon Musk
The meeting with Michael Waltz marked PM Modi’s first engagement of the day. Joining the discussions were India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and National Security advisor Ajit Doval.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi met SpaceX CEO Elon Musk at Blair House, the President’s Guest House. Musk arrived with his three young children, making the interaction a unique moment during the visit.
Bilateral meeting with Donald Trump
Earlier, PM Modi also had a meeting with US director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard at Blair House. He congratulated her on her role as the 8th director of National Intelligence, a role she officially assumed earlier in the day in the presence of US President Donald Trump. Sharing his thoughts on X, PM Modi stated, “Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong votary.”

PM Modi arrived in Washington on Wednesday evening to hold bilateral talks with President Donald Trump. His visit is aimed at further deepening India-US ties in key areas, including defence, technology and economic collaboration.
