‘He will always be with us’: US President to hold joint press conference with Musk as latter exits DOGE

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has announced a joint press conference with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, scheduled for Friday at 1:30 PM EST (11:00 PM IST) in the Oval Office. This event will mark Musk’s departure n his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a position he held for 130 days.

This follows Musk’s announcement that he is leaving his position as the head of DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency. He announced on X that he was leaving the administration as a “special government employee.”

During his tenure, Musk had spearheaded the cost-cutting measures that was aimed to reduce federal spending. The administration has claimed savings of up to $175 billion but critics have argued that the actual impact falls short of the projected $2 trillion.

Musk’s departure comes amid reported policy disagreements with the administration, particularly over a fiscal bill projected to increase deficit by $4 trillion. Despite these differences, President Trump praised Musk as “terrific” and stated, “”He will always be with us, helping all the way.”

The press conference is expected to address Musk’s contributions to the administration of his future and his future involvement. While Musk is formally stepping out rom his formal role, he is expected to continue advising the president informally.

Musk aims to refocus his business ventures, including Tesla and SpaceX, both of which have faced significant challenges recently. Tesla’s quarterly profits have declined, and SpaceX encountered major setbacks in its latest Starship test.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” Musk posted on X.

The upcoming press conference is set to address the future of DOGE initiatives and the ongoing relationships between the the tech entrepreneur and the Trump administration.
