Washington: US President Donald Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “much tougher and better negotiator” than him without a doubt when asked about their bilateral talks at the White House on tariffs and trade deals between New Delhi and Washington on Friday.
Speaking at a joint presser along with PM Modi, who is on a visit to the US, Trump was asked about him referring to Modi as a tough negotiator and who was “tougher negotiator” and who has the “better negotiating tactic when it comes to tariffs” during the meeting on Friday.
“He (PM Modi) is a tougher negotiator than me, he is a much better negotiator than me, it’s not even a contest,” Trump said.

PM Modi-Trump bilateral talks outcomes
The landmark meeting yielded breakthrough results as it came at a crucial time, just weeks after Trump took over as the US President for the second time. India and the US have decided to take a big leap in boosting their ties in major critical sectors with Trump announcing providing F-35 fighter jets to New Delhi as part of raising military supplies by billions of dollars, besides becoming a leading supplier for oil and gas to India.
After extensive discussions with Modi, Trump stated that there is a “special bond” between the world’s oldest and largest democracies. Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including energy, critical technologies, and connectivity.
“Starting this year, we will significantly increase military sales to India by several billion dollars,” Trump announced at a joint press conference with Modi.
“We are also laying the groundwork to eventually supply India with F-35 stealth fighters,” he added.
Trump also announced that his administration has approved the extradition of the “very evil” 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana, wanted by Indian agencies to “face justice in India”.
The US President said India and the US will be working together like “never before” to confront the threat of radical Islamic terror across the world.
