New Delhi: Senior Bangladeshi lawyer Rabindra Ghosh will miss a crucial hearing of a case involving jailed Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das on Thursday after he was hospitalised in Kolkata due to a chest pain. Ghosh is representing Das in the ongoing legal battle.
The 74-year-old lawyer was admitted to the state-run Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital in Kolkata after experiencing chest pain late Tuesday night at his son’s residence in Barrackpore. A medical board has been formed to monitor Ghosh’s condition.

Ghosh had travelled to West Bengal with his wife for medical treatment last month and has been staying with his son. Speaking to news agency PTI from his hospital bed, he said, “I am in constant contact with my junior lawyers and will continue to fight until the end. Once I recover, I will return to Bangladesh.”
In his absence, two of his junior lawyers along with 18 other legal representatives will handle the case in court on Thursday. The hearing is scheduled at the Chittagong high court, where the remand of monk Chinmoy Krishna Das will be heard.
Das, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was detained at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last year while travelling to Chattogram for a rally. He has been accused of charges that the senior lawyer claims are false and aimed at targeting him for his efforts to rally the Hindu community.
Das is currently in custody and has been denied bail and remains in jail at least until January 2. Ghosh described it as a deliberate act of repression. Last week, Ghosh had said, “I have faced numerous challenges, but I will not stop fighting for justice. This case is emblematic of the struggles faced by the Hindu community in Bangladesh.”
