Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, while speaking at the Convention for Overseas Pakistanis on Wednesday commemorated the Two-nation Theory. He urged the Pakistanis to teach their children of the ‘sharp difference between Hindus and Muslims’ which was the cause for the establishment of the Islamic Republic. He highlighted the ‘Two-nation Theory’ which culminated into the formation of Pakistan.
“Our religion, our customs and traditions, our ambitions, our thoughts, everything is different. Noting these differences, our forefathers thought of the two-nation theory. The basis of this thought was that we were two nations and not one,” Pakistan Army General said.
The two nation theory was peddled by Jinnah in 1940’s during the struggle for independence. The theory envisioned the formation of a separate nation for Muslims named ‘Pakistan’. Propagating this theory, Jinnah mustered the support of a large portion of Muslim community which ultimately led to the partition of India in 1947.
“Tell this to your children s they never forget the story of Pakistan’s creation. Our forefather have made a lot of sacrifices for the creation of this country. We also have sacrificed for this country a lot and we know how to defend it.
My dear bothers, sisters, sons and daughters, please don’t forget this,” Munir said. Pakistani PM Shahbaz Sharif was also present in the event. He also said that Pakistan has been formed on the basis of Kalima that means Islamic declaration of faith.
General Munir also dismissed the threat posed by Balochistan-based militant groups, displaying a confident dismissal of the perceived threat. He said, “Even ten generations of terrorists cannot harm Pakistan.”
