Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei declared that the government must impose parliamentary bills in the light of current circumstances. “Although the proposal is still under preparation, we will further coordinate  with the in the Parliament,” Baghaei asserted.

Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that Iran is absolutely against the production of nuclear weapons, but it will definitely exercise its right to produce nuclear energy and research.

The plan to exit NPT by Iran comes as Iran and Israel increase the frequency of attacks on each other following Tel Aviv initiating attacks in Tehran over its alleged nuclear programme.

The two countries have been conducting fierce attacks on each other for last two days despite a request for restraint from both sides.

The treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is an international agreement aimed at the prevention of spreading nuclear weapons and related technologies, promoting cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and advancing the goal of nuclear disarmament and complete global disarmament. The treaty promotes the right to produce nuclear energy and conduct research on the same.

Baghaei mocks Israel

In 2018 under President Trump’s first tenure, the US withdrew from a Iran nuclear deal or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached in 2015 to limit Tehran’s capacity to enrich uranium and stopping Iran from building a nuclear weapon. Iran maintains that its program is peaceful, but the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly warned that the country has enough enriched uranium to make several nuclear bombs if it opts to do so.

Baghaei has now slammed Israel saying it is not a signatory to NPT and produces nuclear bombs. He said, ” The Zionist regime is the only possessor of weapons of mass destruction in the region.”
