New Delhi: Amid rapidly escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed to have struck a key Mossad intelligence centre in Tel Aviv, according to a report by AFP. Mossad is Israel’s foreign intelligence agency.
In a statement aired on Iranian state television, the IRGC said it had targeted “the military intelligence centre of the Zionist regime’s army, Aman, and the Zionist regime’s terrorist operations planning centre, the Mossad,” adding that the facility was “currently on fire.” The claims have not yet been independently verified.
Israel issues warning to Khamenei
Meanwhile, Israeli defence minister Israel Katz on Tuesday issued a direct warning to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, drawing a sharp comparison to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who was overthrown and executed following the 2003 US invasion.
“I warn the Iranian dictator against continuing to commit war crimes and launch missiles toward Israeli civilians,” Katz said during a meeting with senior military and intelligence officials. “He should remember what happened to the dictator in the neighbouring country to Iran who took the same path against Israel,” he added.
Explosions rock Tehran
Earlier today, two loud explosions were reported in central and northern Tehran, as the city came under Israeli bombardment for the fifth consecutive day. The strikes follow Monday’s Israeli attack on Iran’s state television headquarters.
The Israeli military also claimed to have killed Ali Shadmani, identified as Iran’s wartime Chief of Staff, making him reportedly the most senior Iranian military commander killed in the current campaign.
Israel now appears to be expanding its air campaign against Tehran, just five days after launching a surprise offensive targeting Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure.
Adding to the tension, US President Donald Trump issued a stark message on social media, urging residents of Tehran to evacuate. He reiterated that he wanted a “real end” to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, with the regime “giving up entirely” on nuclear weapons.
India begins evacuation
Amid the deteriorating security situation, the Indian Embassy in Iran has advised all Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) using their own vehicles to leave Tehran and relocate to safer areas.
According to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday, Indian students have already been moved out of the capital under arrangements made by the embassy. Additionally, some Indian nationals have been assisted in exiting Iran via the Armenia border, the MEA confirmed.
