Kolkata: In what could be a major concern for Israel, the country is facing a dearth of Arrow missile interceptors, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The issue has raised concerns over Israel’s capacity to counter long-range ballistic attacks from Iran. Notably, the Wall Street Journal has made the report citing a senior US official.
The report also states that the US has known about the issue for several months. Hence, it has reportedly taken steps to bolster the missile defence systems of Israel. The US has deployed more assets across multiple domains, land, sea, and air.
Notably, since Israel’s ‘Operation Rising Lion’ began, the US Defense Department has stationed more missile defence systems in the Middle East. However, the increasing intercept operations have also raised alarm in Washington over the sustainability of US stocks.
According to Tom Karako, director of the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, “Neither the US nor the Israelis can continue to sit and intercept missiles all day. The Israelis and their friends need to move with all deliberate haste to do whatever needs to be done because we cannot afford to sit and play catch.”
The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has hit out at Israel and the United States amid his country’s ongoing armed conflict with the Benjamin Netanyahu-led country. Khamenei warned that there would be “dire consequences” for Israel and said that Tehran would harshly retaliate against them.
He also fired verbal shots at the US, a day after President Donald Trump called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender”. The Supreme Leader said, “Intelligent people who know Iran, the Iranian nation, and its history will never speak to this nation in threatening language because the Iranian nation will not surrender, and Americans should know that any US military intervention will undoubtedly be accompanied by irreparable damage.”
