New Delhi: Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday warned that US bears “full responsibility” for consequences of its strikes on Tehran’s nuclear facilities. Holding it accountable, he said that his country reserves all its options to defend its security, interest, and people.
Araghchi added that US President Donald Trump has not just betrayed Iran but also betrayed his own nation with the early Sunday strikes, while calling on the international community to condemn the US attacks.
“By attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities, the US has crossed a very big red line,” he underlined, while hitting out at Washington for showing “no respect for international law” and violating the UN charter.
Araghchi said it is difficult to understand why Iran was attacked on a false claim, adding that the extent of damages on the nuclear sites after the strikes were being probed.
He pointed out the door of diplomacy should always be kept open, however “now is not the time for that”. After the US strikes on the nuclear facilities, it is “irrelevant to ask Iran to return to diplomacy”, Iran’s foreign minister said. He also questioned why should Iran rely on the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, when NPT was not able to protect Iran.
Araghchi also squarely blamed the International Atomic Energy Agency, and its chief Rafael Grossi for “paving the way to this aggression”. He said that he is going to Moscow to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 23.
