New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has expressed concern and hope for swift de-escalation after India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, a major military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
“It’s a shame. We just heard about it,” Trump told reporters, moments after being briefed on the developments as he entered the Oval Office. “They’ve been fighting for decades—centuries, actually. I hope it ends quickly.”
‘Knew something was going to happen’
Trump, reflecting on the long-standing India-Pakistan hostilities, remarked, “I knew something was going to happen,” but added, “I just hope it ends very quickly.”
India’s strikes come in direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, which left 26 people dead — 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen — most of whom were tourists. At least nine sites linked to terrorist operations were precisely targeted, Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

“Our operations have been deliberate, restrained, and non-escalatory. No Pakistani military installations were struck,” the ministry stated. “India has exercised significant restraint in both the choice of targets and the manner of execution. We remain firmly committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
A detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor is scheduled to be held later today, during which the Ministry will provide further clarity on the objectives, outcomes, and intelligence behind the mission.
