Washington: Reflecting upon a fruitful US visit and significant bilateral talks with Donald Trump and top officials in Washington, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday drew parallels between the president’s “Make America Great Again” and his “Viksit Bharat” visions and that this similarity will pave the way for a “MEGA partnership for prosperity”.
“President Trump often talks about MAGA. In India, we are working towards a Viksit Bharat, which in American context translates into MIGA. And together, the India-USA have a MEGA partnership for prosperity!”

At the press briefing, the Prime Minister remarked, “The people of America are familiar with MAGA – Make America Great Again. Similarly, the people of India are striving towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”
On Thursday (local time), Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India and the US have set a target of USD 500 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. He further stated that teams from both nations will collaborate to finalise a mutually beneficial trade agreement.
Addressing a joint press conference after the bilateral talks, PM Modi said India and the US will setup a defence cooperation framework for the next decade.
Trump highlighted the “special bond” between the world’s oldest and largest democracies, stating that both nations have agreed to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as energy, critical technologies, and connectivity.
“Starting this year, we will be significantly increasing military sales to India by several billion dollars,” he said. “We are also laying the groundwork to eventually supply India with F-35 stealth fighters.”
