New York: US President Donald Trump has offered marital advice to French President Emmanuel Macron, following a viral video, which showed Macron being shoved in the face by his wife, Brigitte. During a press conference at the Oval office, Trump said “Make sure the door remains closed. That is not good.”
Trump brushes off incident
When questioned about the viral video, where the French First Lady was seen seemingly hitting her husband on his face, Trump said, “He is fine too, they are fine. They are good people. I know them very well.” He asked people not to read too much into the small incident.
Earlier when the French President was questioned regarding the matter, Macron said that the incident was being overblown. He described the entire act as a “joke between him and his wife, Brigitte Macron. He reportedly said, “We were squabbling and rather joking.” He said that the incident was being exaggerated and being taken as “some geo-planetary catastrophe”.
The incident took place on Sunday evening, as Macron arrived in Vietnam, on an official visit to the country. The French President is also touring other Southeast Asian nations. The viral video showed Macron getting ready to deplane in Hanoi, when suddenly he is shoved in the face from the left side of the plane. The cameras captured two hands in red overcoat shoving the President. As the President and First Lady emerged from the plane, it was clear that the hands were that of First Lady Brigitte, who was dressed in red for the arrival.
Macron and Brigitte have been married since 2007. Emmanuel Macron was a student at the high school where Brigitte taught. There is a 25-year age gap between the couple.
