New Delhi: A row revolving around the mystery drone sightings across the United States, particularly in New Jersey, had raged some time back. Now, US President Joe Biden has commented on it. On Tuesday, speaking to reporters at the White House, Biden pointed out that there was “nothing nefarious” about the drones seen in recent weeks.
“Nothing nefarious, apparently, but they’re checking it all out,” the commander-in-chief said about the unmanned flying objects. He added that the authorities are “following this closely,” but added in the same breath that there was “no sense of danger” till now.
Biden’s remarks came one day after Donald Trump flayed his administration for allegedly concealing information about the mysterious drone sightings, as the number of reports continues to rise.
On Monday, during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump had claimed the “government knows what is happening,” while mentioning about the drone row. “Look, our military knows where they took off from — if it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went, and for some reason, they don’t want to comment,” Trump had said.
Our military knows, our president knows: Trump
Trump added that “our military knows, and our president knows. And I think they’d be better off saying what it is. And for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense. He also pointed out that the drones aren’t being sent by “the enemy”. “Because if it was the enemy, they’d blast it out — even if they were late, they’d blast it,” he said as quoted by New York Post, while underlining that “something strange is going on”.
Earlier, the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Defense Department, had issued a joint response after around 5,000 drone sightings. The agencies, as well as the FBI, in a separate statement said that these incidents “include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and stars mistakenly reported as drones”.
