Moscow: As India’s outreach programme to highlight the operation Sindoor and Pahalgam terror attack continues, an all-party delegation arrived in Moscow on Friday.
India’s Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, hosted the delegation, led by Member of Parliament Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). The delegation had a thorough discussion of Indo-Russo ties before launching a full-scale engagement with the Russian counterparts.
Apart from Russia, the delegation will be visiting other countries, including Slovakia, Greece, Latvia and Spain.
The delegation is led by Kanimozhi and includes senior Parliamentarians, like Rajeev Rai (SP), Mian Altaf Ahmed (NC), Brijesh Chowkta (BJP), Prem Chand Gupta (RJD), Jawed Ashraf (NCP), and Ashok Kumar Mittal (RJD). The delegates will be accompanied by former Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri on this tour.
We have always worked together on diplomatic ties: MP Kanimozhi
Kanimozhi stated that the delegation, sent by the Indian government, aims to represent India’s remarkable efforts in combating terrorism and explained the need for both nations to stand alongside each other at times of war.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Kanimozhi said, “Russia has been a strategic partner and we have always worked together on diplomatic issues, trade…it becomes very important at this point to reach out to Russia when we have been facing terror attacks time and again. We lost 26 lives in India, so the Government of India and the PM decided that MPs from across the country, from different parties, would be sent to represent the Indian stand against terrorism and explain our position to the world. So, as a part of these delegations that are being sent, one delegation has been sent to Russia”.
About Operation Sindoor
India launched Operation Sindoor as a response to the April 22 terror attack in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam in which 25 tourists and one local Kashmiri were killed. In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched a “precision strike” on terror infrastructure inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Indian Armed Forces responded effectively to Pakistan’s subsequent aggression and pounded its airbases.
On May 10, the two nations reached an understanding to cease military action following a call made by Pakistan’s DGMO to his Indian counterpart. The ceasefire between India and Pakistan was announced by US President Donald Trump, claiming his role in the mediation to de-escalate the tension between the two countries.
