Islamabad: Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir once again brought up the Kashmir issue and blamed India for the recent tensions in the region, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. However he blamed India without any evidence.
Munir blames India for unprovoked aggression
India and Pakistan engaged in military conflict for close to 4 days after India launched Operation Sindoor, in the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam. The 2 sides exchanged fire across the Line of Control. India’s Operation Sindoor was targeted at the terror launchpads in the neighbouring country.
Despite Pakistan being the perpetrator of terror in the region, Munir claimed that India had twice undertaken acts of unprovoked aggression. He said that India’s acts were a result of “troubling absence of strategic foresight” and vowed a decisive response from Pakistan to any future acts of aggression by its neighbour.
The Pakistan Army Chief was speaking at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, where he made these statements. Munir claimed that his country had provided a “resolute response” to India, during Operation Sindoor. This despite the fact that Pakistan reached out to India following the airstrikes on its territory, which led to heavy losses in the country.
Munir seemed to endorse terror, disguising them as “legitimate struggle.” A report in News18 quoted him as saying, “Pakistan, despite grave provocations, acted with restraint and maturity, and demonstrated its commitment to regional peace and stability, which has led to Pakistan’s role as a net regional stabiliser.” He assured people of his country that Pakistan would respond with a swift and befitting response to any future aggression.
Munir rakes up Kashmir
Munir however did not just stop at falsely blaming India. He also raked up the Kashmir issue during his speech at the Naval Academy. He claimed that Pakistan was a strong advocate of a just resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the United Nations Resolution and the wishes of the people of Kashmir.
He called for a “just and peaceful” resolution of the Kashmir issue for lasting peace in the region. Just days before the Pahalgam attack, Munir had called Kashmir as a “jugular vein” of his country.
During India’s Operation Sindoor, more than 100 terrorists belonging to various terror outfits, like the Jaish-E-Mohammad, Lashkar and others were killed. This was India’s response to the killing of 26 people in Pahalgam on April 22. Those killed in India were tourists.
