New Delhi: Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar is set to receive Rs 14 crore from Pakistani government under Islamabad’s “Shuhada Package” (Martyrdom Package). This package, declared by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s administration, promises Rs 1 crore in compensation for each individual deemed a “martyr” during India’s “Operation Sindoor”.
India on early May 7 launched an air strike on nine terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after a terror attack on civilians in Pahalgam on April 22. According to reports, around 80 to 90 terrorists were killed in the Indian attacks.
Azhar’s emotional turmoil
The operation, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Bahawalpur, struck Azhar’s residence and killed 14 people closely associated with him — including his elder sister, her husband, their children, and his brother Rauf, a key figure behind the Kandahar hijacking. Azhar himself claimed that all those killed were under his care and linked to his terror outfit, either by blood or operations.
Following the strike, Azhar expressed emotional turmoil in a letter, reportedly stating he no longer wishes to live. Despite international sanctions against Azhar and JeM, reports suggest he could receive compensation for all 14 deaths — amounting to Rs 14 crore — though the Pakistani government has not officially confirmed whether the funds will be directly handed to him.
