New Delhi: A panicked Pakistan government, early on Wednesday morning, shut down the airports in Lahore and Sialkot for 48 hours after the Indian Army targeted terror infrastructure across the border.
According to reports, nine terror sites were struck by the Indian Army. Pakistan has since acknowledged the attack. “Some time ago, the cowardly enemy India launched air strikes on the Subhanullah mosque in Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muzaffarabad at three locations from the air. All of our air force jets are airborne. This cowardly and shameful attack was carried out from within India’s airspace. They were never allowed to enter Pakistani airspace. Let me say it unequivocally: Pakistan will respond to this at a time and place of its own choosing. This heinous provocation will not go unanswered,” Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry was quoted by Dawn News as saying.
India activates air defence units
All air defence units along the India-Pakistan border have been fully activated to counter any potential retaliation, Indian defence officials said in a statement.
The Indian action followed an attack by Pakistan-based terrorists on a group of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on 22 April, which killed 26 people. Meanwhile, NSA Ajit Doval spoke with US NSA and Secretary of State Marco Rubio hours after the strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
