PM Modi’s grand welcome in Cyprus
President Christodoulides welcomed Modi’s presence, emphasizing the importance of expanding ties in technology-driven sectors and shipping, considering Cyprus’s strategic location in the Mediterranean.
The roundtable is part of PM Modi’s first-ever visit to Cyprus, which the Ministry of External Affairs described as a reaffirmation of the “historic, warm, and enduring” ties between the two nations.
In the evening, PM Modi arrived in Cyprus to an enthusiastic welcome. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “This is his first visit to this beautiful country,” adding that being received at the airport by the President himself was a “special” gesture reflecting strong bilateral relations.
Members of the Indian diaspora in Limassol greeted Modi with traditional songs, cultural performances, and tricolour flags. The Prime Minister interacted with families and briefly addressed the gathering before heading to his scheduled meetings.
PM Modi on 3-day tour to Cyprus
PM Modi’s visit, at the invitation of President Christodoulides, is part of a three-nation diplomatic tour. He will be in Cyprus from June 15 to 17, focusing on strengthening trade, investment, technology, security, and people-to-people ties.
On Monday, PM Modi will receive a ceremonial welcome at the presidential palace, followed by delegation-level talks and a joint press interaction. He is expected to depart shortly after for the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, and then visit Croatia.
Ahead of his departure, PM Modi described Cyprus as a close friend and key partner in the EU and said the visit would build upon the historical relationship the two countries share.
