New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Monday conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III of Cyprus, the island country’s highest civilian honour. PM Modi was presented the award by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides.
After being conferred with the award, PM Modi dedicated it to the friendship between the two countries. He said that his Grand Cross belongs to all the 1.4 billion Indians.
In a post on X, he wrote, “”Humbled to receive the ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III’ of Cyprus. I dedicate it to the friendship between our nations.”

The Order of Makarios III is the highest knighthood honour which is awarded by Cyprus. The award is named after the country’s first President, Archbishop Makarios III. The honour is conferred upon heads of state and other distinguished people in recognition of meritorious service to the nation.
PM Modi receives warm welcome
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, PM Modi landed in Cyprus. President Christodoulides received him at the airport and accorded a warm official reception to PM Modi at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
PM Modi and President Christodoulides also held an interaction with leading CEOs. After the meeting, PM Modi wrote in a post: “President Nikos Christodoulides and I interacted with leading CEOs in order to add vigour to commercial linkages between India and Cyprus. Sectors like innovation, energy, technology and more offer immense potential. I also talked about India’s reform trajectory in the last decade. India looks forward to deepening friendship with Cyprus!”
PM Modi is in Cyprus as part of his three-nation visit. After Cyprus, he will visit Kananaskis in Canada to take part in the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Following G7 Summit, PM Modi will head to Croatia, where he is set to meet President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
