Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Washington DC on Thursday (February 13), for a two-day visit to the United States. During his visit, PM Modi will hold important meetings with President Donald Trump and other US officials. The visit is significant as PM Modi will be among the first foreign leaders to meet President Trump since he took office as the 47th President of the United States.

The schedule of PM Modi’s visit is packed with discussions on a wide range of issues. The key focus areas will be trade relations, economic cooperation, defense partnerships, and technology advancements. Both leaders are expected to discuss topics such as the H-1B visa and green card policies, trade issues, defence cooperation, the supply of military technology like jet engines and the defence partnerships between the two nations.

PM Modi’s schedule at White House

  • 2.30 am (IST): Prime Minister Modi will arrive at the White House.
  • 2.35 am to 3.20 am (IST): Bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Trump.
  • 3.40 am to 4.10 am (IST): Both leaders will address the media in the Oval Office, providing insights into their discussions.
  • 4.10 am to 5.10 am (IST): A private dinner hosted by President Trump will follow the meeting.

PM Modi-Donald Trump likely to discuss these topics

During the bilateral talks, both PM Modi and President Trump are expected to focus on reducing import tariffs, increasing defense and energy trade, and discussing long-standing trade issues. The meeting comes at a time when strengthening economic and defense ties is a top priority for both nations.

PM Modi’s visit is a part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen India-US relations. The prime minister will be meeting with US business leaders, including billionaire Elon Musk, and other executives during his stay. The visit is a part of PM Modi’s broader agenda to boost trade and investment, including promoting the “Make in India” initiative, and advancing cooperation on advanced technologies like semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

This is PM Modi’s 10th visit to the United States and his fourth meeting with President Trump.

PM Modi gets warm welcome

After his arrival to Washington DC, PM Modi meet with Indian community. Despite the cold weather, the enthusiasm of the Indian diaspora was overwhelming. Supporters raised slogans of “Modi-Modi” and expressed their excitement at meeting the Prime Minister.

PM Modi shared his gratitude on X, saying, “Despite the cold weather, the Indian diaspora in Washington DC has given me a very grand welcome. My gratitude to them.”

PM Modi met Tulsi Gabbard, the newly-confirmed Director of National Intelligence of the US. On his X handle, PM Modi congratulated Gabbard for her appointment and expressed that they had discussed various aspects of strengthening the India-US friendship.
