New Delhi: Amid a period of political turbulence in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the people and government of Bangladesh on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha.

In a letter dated June 4th, 2025, addressed to Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, PM Modi conveyed heartfelt wishes on behalf of the Indian people and government. “On behalf of the people and the Government of India, I convey warm greetings to you and the people of Bangladesh on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha,” PM Modi wrote in the letter.

Modi’s message emphasised the profound cultural significance of Eid al-Adha, highlighting its timeless values of sacrifice, compassion, and brotherhood. He underscored that the festival holds an integral place within India’s rich and diverse cultural landscape, celebrated with immense joy and fervour by millions of Indian Muslims.

He eloquently stated, “This holy festival is an integral part of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India and is celebrated with immense joy and fervour by millions of people of Islamic faith across the country. It reminds us of the timeless values of sacrifice, compassion and brotherhood, which are essential in building a peaceful and inclusive world.” The letter also conveyed personal well-wishes for Professor Yunus’s health and happiness.

Professor Yunus responded on June 6th, expressing gratitude for Modi’s thoughtful message. In his reply, Yunus highlighted Eid al-Adha’s capacity to unite communities and inspire collaborative efforts for global well-being. He stated, “Eid-ul-Azha is a time of reflection, which brings communities together… and inspires us all to work together for the greater benefits of the peoples across the world.”

He expressed confidence in the enduring strength of the India-Bangladesh relationship, built upon mutual respect and understanding. He concluded by reciprocating well-wishes for PM Modi and extending hopes for peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of India. “On this blessed occasion, I wish you, Excellency, good health and happiness and the people of India peace, progress, and prosperity,” he concluded.
