It was supposed to be a routine Shenzhen Airlines flight from Shenzhen to Shanghai. At least, it started that way. However, soon after it took off, the flight became a scene of chaos after two female passengers, seated in the same row, got into a heated exchange over body odour (BO) and perfume. While one complained about the other’s body odour, the other fired back, saying that she couldn’t stand the overpowering perfume.

Scent-sational showdown: Verbal spat to physical scuffle

The dispute escalated quickly. Verbal jabs soon became a physical brawl. While the bystanding passengers and flight attendants rushed to intervene, the fight was raging on full swing. A video, which is now viral on social media, shows the chaos as it unfolded just before the plane was set to take off.

“You Bit Me!”

In the mayhem, a cabin crew member was bitten on the arm while trying to separate the two women. “Open your mouth. You have bitten me!” she was heard yelling in the video. Another passenger was scratched in the scuffle.

Delay on the tarmac

Naturally, in the chaos, the flight was delayed by two hours. It was scheduled to depart Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport at 5:45 pm for Shanghai Hongqiao. All passengers were asked to disembark as the authorities stepped in. They were allowed to reboard only after the situation was under control.

Airline reacts, police step in

Shenzhen Airlines issued a statement condemning the incident: “We do our best to safeguard the legal rights of passengers and employees. We urge travellers to act in a civilised manner.”

The police escorted the two unruly passengers off the aircraft and have launched an investigation. It remains unclear what consequences they may face.
