Cairo: An Israeli airstrike on a school housing displaced people in Gaza resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to several others, according to the civil emergency service’s report on Sunday. On Saturday, Israeli airstrikes targeted two houses in the Nuseirat refugee camp and Deir Al-Balah city in central Gaza.
It resulted in the deaths of at least 10 Palestinians, including two children, medics who spoke to Reuters said. At the same time, Gaza’s health ministry reported heavy and intense bombardment of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, describing it as “unprecedented” and without prior warning.
Israeli military targets northern hospital
The hospital, one of just three operational medical facilities in the northern part of the region, has been under attack by the Israeli military since October. The health ministry said that the bombing, which included explosives and tank fire, is aimed directly at the hospital while staff and patients remain inside.
Pope Francis saud he was outraged on Saturday over the bombing of children in Gaza, calling it “cruelty” and stating, “Yesterday, children were bombed. This is cruelty, this is not war.” He added, “I want to say it because it touches my heart.”
Drone strike kills eight
The violence continued as Israel launched further attacks on Gaza, now ongoing for more than 14 months. On Friday, at least eight people died when a drone missile struck a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp’s market street, as reported by Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
Four people were killed in an airstrike on Beit Hanoon, including two girls and their parents, Al Jazeera reported. Apart from that, the bodies of three brothers were recovered from the debris of a home destroyed near Kamal Adwan Hospital.
