‘Super-commuter’: Indian-origin mother in Malaysia flies to work 5 days a week

Kuala Lumpur: In Indian-origin mom has been dubbed as ‘super commuter’ in Malaysia because of her mode to travel for work five days a week. While she wakes up daily at 4AM, she leaves home by 5AM. However, there is one difference with other commuters. Instead of taking bus, cabs or driving, the woman flies to work almost daily from Penang to Kula Lumpur.

‘Need to be with children’Kaur shares her daily routine

According to a report published in CNA Insider, Racheal Kaur works in AirAsia’s finance operations department. In an interview recently , Kaur revealed how she manages to travel. During the interview she also claimed that flying daily not only a cheaper mode of transportation for her but also allows her to spend time at home with family.

‘Need to be with children’

“I have two children, both of whom growing. My elder child is 12 years old, while the younger one is 11. Since they are growing, I feel the need to be with them more often being a mother. After this arrangement, I am able to go home daily and see them. It was in 2024 that I decided to start flying daily.” Kaur claimed that earlier she used to spend $474 every month commuting for work, but now spends $316 a month.

Kaur shares her daily routine

Sharing her daily routine, Kaur added, “ I wake up daily at 4:00 to get ready and then leave home for airport by 5:00. After boarding a flight the 5:55 flight, I reach the office at 7:45 am. After working the whole day, I return by 8:00 pm.” She added that the daily commute including her food including food and accommodation, is cheaper is cheaper as compared to the time she rented a house near her office.

Pointing out that her company was open to her arrangement, Kaur added that the arrangement worked better for her as compared to working from home “Being with people. it’s easier to get a task done, as compared to working from home.”
