New Delhi: Conservative commentator and former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson has stirred controversy with his explosive allegation that the Biden administration attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin. He made the claims on his podcast, “The Tucker Carlson Show”, without providing any evidence.
Carlson made the bold assertion during a discussion with journalist Matt Taibbi, saying, “The Biden administration did, they tried to kill Putin, which is insane.” He also accused former Secretary of State Tony Blinken of pushing for war and fostering chaos. “That’s demented, that you would even think of something like that. So why were they? Because chaos is a screen that protects them,” he added.

‘Chaos is a screen that protects them’
“I know that in the last two months, Blinken did everything to accelerate the war which is illegal. Nobody said anything about that,” Carlson said.
While the Biden administration is yet to respond to the allegations, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has been quoted in the Russian media as saying: “The Russian special services are constantly taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety, and, of course, the safety of those under state protection. This concerns first and foremost the head of the state.”
Carlson claimed that several former and current US officials have been unsettled by President Donald Trump’s efforts to declassify numerous government documents, viewing the potential consequences as highly dangerous. He added, “I think this was one of the reasons [ex-Secretary of State] Tony Blinken was pushing so hard for a real war, trying to kill Putin, for example… The Biden administration did [it], they tried to kill Putin. Who takes over Russia? What happens to the nuclear arsenal in a country so complex that outsiders can’t even understand… That’s demented that you would even think about something like that.”
A controversial figure
Carlson was ousted from Fox News in 2023 amid legal challenges over the network’s airing of false claims about the 2020 US presidential election.
Carlson is not new to making controversial or pro-Russian statements. His interview with Vladimir Putin and subsequent sit-down with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov have drawn criticism, particularly as tensions between the US and Russia remain high.
