He said the main goal of the conversation is to stop the bloodshed between the two countries. After the call with Putin, Trump also plans to talk to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and members of NATO.
Trump shared this information in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. He wrote, “I will talk to Russian President Putin on the phone on Monday at 10:00 am. The topic will be ending the bloodshed, where over 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are being killed every week. After that, I will talk to Ukrainian President Zelensky, and then to various NATO leaders. Hopefully, it will be a useful day and this war, which should never have happened, will finally end.”

According to a report by CNN, Trump said on Friday that he believes his personal involvement is necessary to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Speaking at the end of his tour in West Asia, Trump said that current peace efforts are unlikely to work unless he and Putin talk directly. He suggested that their meeting could bring a turning point in the peace process.
His statement came just before Russian and Ukrainian officials were scheduled to meet in Turkey. It was the first face-to-face meeting between the two sides in a long time. However, both the US government and Trump have expressed doubts about any major breakthrough coming from that meeting.
When asked about a possible meeting with Putin, Trump said, “As soon as we can schedule it.” He also said that Ukrainian President Zelensky did not join a recent conversation because he had heard that Putin was not attending. Trump added, “Zelensky would not have come if I had not been there. And I don’t think anything will move forward until Putin and I meet directly.”
