New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “100 per cent Communist Lunatic.” Trump’s remarks came after Mamdani’s unexpected win in the New York Democratic mayoral primary election. Mamdani, a state assemblyman from Queens and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), ran on a bold left-wing platform focusing on housing rights, transit equity and anti police funding measures. Mamdani defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo in a major political upset.

In a post on Truth Social, the US President on Thursday has hit out at the leaders supporting Mamdani including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and Senator Chuck Schumer. “It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous,” Trump wrote.
He also took a potshot at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, calling him “Cryin’ Chuck” for supporting Mamdani.
Who is Zohran Mamdani?
Zohran Mamdani is the son of Indian-born filmmaker Mira Nair and Mahmood Mamdani, Indian Ugandan academic. He is backed by the democratic socialists of America party. His win has widened the rift within Democratic Party as two union leaders have stepped down from the Party’s leadership board.
Mamani’s victory over Cuomo is significant in New York’s political landscape. He will become New York’s first Muslim mayor if he wins the final race. Cuomo was seeking political redemption after resigning amid sexual misconduct allegations.
