US cities put on high alert after Iran strikes; extra forces deployed in New York, Washington

New Delhi: After launching strikes in Iran, the US authorities have gone on high alert. Advisories have been issued by New York and Washington and deployed additional security forces in the cities.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that additional personnel were stationed in religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites throughout the city.

Taking to X, the NYPD said: “We’re tracking the situation unfolding in Iran.” It said: “Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC.”

The police department said: “The Metropolitan Police Department is closely monitoring the events in Iran. We are actively coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to share information and monitor intelligence in order to help safeguard residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia.”

It added: “At this time, there are no known threats to the District. However, MPD has maintained an increased presence at religious institutions across the city. We continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and help keep our community safe.”

‘Every American citizen or military personnel is now on Iran’s target’

Meanwhile, Iranian state television on Sunday reportedly sounded a warning that “every American citizen or military personnel” in the Middle East is now on Iran’s “target”. A viral video circulating on social media shows an Iranian state television anchor warning US President Donald Trump that Iran will end the conflict he started by targeting the country’s nuclear facilities.

“The US has committed a crime against Iran by violating Iran’s airspace. It has no place in the West Asian region. Mr President of the United States, you started it and we will end it,” the Iranian broadcaster warned.

Iran International also quoted a presenter from IRNA as saying that all US civilian and military personnel in the region are now considered “legitimate targets”.
